One of the toughest choices at this year's CMA Awards show will be Male Vocalist of the Year. Past winners in this category is like a who's who list of country superstars -
Keith Urban, Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, George Strait, Tim McGraw all have won the crown.
Here's a look at the nominees, their songs from the past year, and our predictions.
Album - "Modern Day Drifter"
Singles - "Come a Little Closer" "Settle for a Slowdown" "Every Mile a Memory"
Dierks has had an awesome year, he deserves this award and is my dark horse pick. His music has gotten better each year and he is bound to get recognized sooner or later. With all the star power he is up against, it's hard to believe he is going to win, next year might be his year.
Albums - "The Road and the Radio" "Songs from an old Blue Chair"
Singles - "Who'd You Be Today" "Summertime" "Living in Fast Forward"
Kenny had a unique year, that's for sure. He released an album that topped the charts without releasing any singles to radio. That's star-power! His singles are impressive and it's tough to mount an agruement if he wins it.
Album - "What I Do" "Precious Memories"
Singles - "USA Today" "Talkin' Song Repair Blues"
Not the best year for Alan in terms of chart success for his singles, however he recorded a gospel album that claimed the #1 spot on the charts. While his enormous vocal abilities are shown off on the gospel album, unless the voters are all gospel music fans, Alan will have to be happy just being nominated.
Album - "Time Well Wasted"
Singles - "When I Get Where I'm Going" "The World"
Brad is really everything that is right about country music. He has incorportaed the legends into his recording, writes funny, witty songs, and then comes up with a song that is so moving and powerful, it'll stop people in their tracks. His album is awesome and if the academy gives him this award it would complete his great year.
Albums - "Be Here"
Singles - "Making Memories of Us" "Better Life" "Tonight I Wanna Cry"
The two time defending champ - winner in 2004 and 2005 is the safe choice and being picked by many to make it a three-peat. However, I think his run has ended for the simple reason that all the nominees are too strong for the same person to be winning year after year. One sad fact is that if he wins, he won't be there to accept it.
