Rascall Flatts delivers another top 10 country song, but the song lacks something.
It's no secret if you are listening to country radio these days that Rascall Flatts is one of the hottest acts on the scene. In my opinion, they were robbed of "Entertainer of the Year."
Their latest song "My Wish" is a song that a lot of people probably love because of it's message of wishing the best for someone as they go forth into the world.
However, this song will not have the staying power that a similar song, Lee Ann Womack's "I Hope You Dance" has enjoyed over the years, and if you compare the two you can see why:
1. Better vocal harmony - LeeAnn Womack can sound like she's screaming in some songs, "I Hope You Dance" was one of the few songs she ever recorded that her range was put to perfect use. Also, the background singing from the Sons of the Desert truly made this song a unique vocal collaberation.
2. Better lryics - While the Rascall Flatts' song can get somewhat sappy at times, the metaphoric lines of "I Hope You Dance" makes it more interesting.
3. Better universal appeal - "My Wish" is a good song for a graduation or a wedding day, but it's pretty much limited to that. "I hope You Dance" can and will be played at all functions, which is part of the beauty of the song.
4. Rascall Flatts success - Radio will have a lot more choice of Rascall Flatts songs to play than they will have from LeeAnn Womack. The Flatts are a hit making machine and thus it will be harder for them to make one song stick out from the rest. LeeAnn Womack is not as big on country radio, and some stations only play "I Hope You Dance" from the Womack offerings.
