Rascall Flatts makes a tour stop in New York City this Saturday, playing in a venue many country artist pass over.
Start spreading the news, Rascall Flatts is coming to the big city this weekend. Saturday night the country music super group and Gary Allen will play Madison Square Garden.
The significance of this tour stop is the increasing willingness of country artist to schedule a date in New York City. So far this year, Tim Mcgraw, Faith Hill, and Kenny Chesney have taken the stage to sell-out crowds at the Garden on 34th and 7th.
While the impact of last year's CMA Awards in New York City didn't help pursue a radio station to flip formats and fill the void of country radio in the #1 market, it did leave a lasting impact in the city's ability to support tour stops. Before the end of the year, Rascall Flatts, Dierks Bently, Vince Gill, Trace Adkins, and Dwight Yoakam will all be stopping by the Big Apple.
The lesson to be learned here is that local country radio is not the only way to promote a concert. In the case of New York, the outlets to get fans to the show include satellite radio and the internet. Local radio in surrounding communities in New Jersey and Connecticut do help, but it's not the main target. After all, most of the artists will make another stop in those communities either before ot after New York City.
Hopefully, this trend continues and places like New York, Los Angeles, and San Francisco aren't left out when an artist is planning the tour's route. I think the stars of country music need these three big cities as much as the cities need them.
