George Strait may be the greatest success story in country music history. His recent single "Give It Away" lands on top of the Billboard country charts this week, giving him another record to hang his hat on.
"Give It Away" is Strait's 41st Billboard #1 song. (You may be confused since he had a recent album of 50 number one hits, but that covered all charts including Radio & Records and the now-defunct Gavin and Cashbox charts.) The magic number 41 moves him past Conway Twitty into the top slot all-time.
How does he keep doing it? In an age where people are always looking for the next big thing, Strait consistency is unmatched.
After 25 years of success, Strait is not about to stop; he's releasing a brand-new album on October 3rd which contains 15 songs, more songs than he has ever put on a studio album. There's rumors of a new Christmas album from Strait, and he's going to launch a new tour in January.
Try to think of what the world was like in 1981 when Strait made his debut and compare it to 2006 - there's not many similarity - besides George Strait.
