Like Red on a Rose

I tried...I really did! Alan Jackson is one of my all-time favorite performers. His "aw-shucks" mentality and traditional country music has had me buying his records for some time now, but that pattern might be in jepoardy.

Alan's new song, "Like Red on a Rose" is the first single, and title track of his newest studio album...and I want to like it!

When I first heard the song, I thought that it would grow on me, and eventually I would warm up to it. Heck, even "The Talkin Song Repair Blues" grew on me enough to start rooting for its success. But this song has been out for about two months now, and I have come to the conclusion that I just don't like it.

Evidently, I'm not the only one as the song is struggling to keep its Top 20 positioning on the Billboard country charts.

It's just too different for a guy who is so good at what he normally does - sing good ol' traditional sounding country songs. Just the line "And I love you like all little children love pennies" is enough for me to turn away. Pennnies! What does that even mean? I though at first the word was "candy" or "candies." What does that even mean?

Anyway, I hope Alan's next single is more up his alley (and mine,) after all too much of a good thing, is a good thing - right Alan?
