» Danny Brown - Lack of support from within for "Girl Power"
RE Girl Power: I watched an interesting half hour show called "Shania - R.E.S.P.E.C.T" last night on CMT. It looked at how Shania Twain was the biggest-selling female country music artist of the 'nineties, bringing in over $100 million revenue to the CMA, yet she never really got the respect from her peers that she deserved.» sanders9 - Lack of support from within for "Girl Power"

Good points, interesting though that despite the attitude from Nashville, country stations still played everything she put out.

I think a lot of it is still the "legend" of Nashville. They love - the poor girl - the Dolly and Loretta - kind of image and in many ways the Tammy's "stand by your man"- thang. I think a pretty girl like Shania, who is not a southerner who doesn't need Nashville - who is a strong, independent woman, with a country/pop/world sound - just didn't quite fit into the "Opry" scenario. But the radio stations play her - she is money. Oh and besides the fact that she's pretty and I like her music I'm on her side - her husband is a South African.
